Printer Operation

1. Bring your model in .stl format on a USB

2. Locate Printer & Wipe Down All Surfaces

All printers have signage directly corresponding to Skedda booking names. Please ensure you have located the correct printer and wipe down all surfaces with the provided wipes.

3. Check Build Platform

Ensure the printer has a clean build plate installed that has been sprayed with bed adhesive.

If a printer does not have a build plate installed you will need to install one. This is covered in the demonstration.

If a model is still on the build platform, notify a dFab staff member and they will remove the print. Do not remove another staff/student's print.

4. Check Filament

Before commencing a print, ensure

  • Correct Material is loaded

  • Spool contains the required length/weight of the material. (required filament is shown in slicing software / sliced file)

  • Correct/Desired Colour of Filament is loaded

If the printer does not have a suitable spool loaded, you will need to change filament before commencing your print.

Changing material will be covered in the practical demonstration.

5. Commence & Observe Print

You must remain in the workshop and observe the first layer of the print. This is to ensure any major printing issues can be resolved. Bambu Labs printers will auto level the bed on start-up and scan the first layer with the inbuilt LIDAR. If there are any abnormalities present, an error popup will appear on the screen, If this occurs please notify dFab staff.

If a machine appears to have a fault or is behaving in an unexpected manner, contact dFab staff.
