If you are scanning an object that is difficult to scan (see Scanning Objects) You can create a custom scan profile

Scanning

Select a scanning method:

  • Single: Make a single scan This scan can be used when shape fusion is missing specific information.

  • Manual Scan Sequence: Make a sequence of scans, manually adjusting/moving the object between scans. This can be used for large objects that will not fit on the turntable.

  • Automatic Turntable: Make a sequence of scans, automatically rotating the turntable between scans.

  • Background Scan: Single Scan. This scan can be used to easily isolate and remove background data

Scan Profile Specific Settings:

Auto. Grab Texture Recommended Automatically captures colour texture (material map) with scan

Scan Result

  • Smooth Average: 0 Recommended Smooths depth map with an average filter. It is best to adjust lighting & room conditions rather than altering the smoothness of a scan result. The sharpness of a scan can be adjusted in Shape Fusion.

  • Quality Check: ~0.5 Recommended For every 3D point, a confidence value is computed based on the measured surface reflections. Points with low confidence will be removed. The strictness of this filter is indicated with a value between 0 and 1.

  • Outlier Removal ~0.1Recommended Percentage of small outlier fragments removed. 0% = Outlier Removal Off. 10% = removal of all objects smaller than 10% of the largest fragment, 100% = removal of all except largest scan fragment

  • Background Removal: Recommended

  • Name Create a scan prefix to easily distinguish multiple scan sequences

Place Object to be scanned on turntable or scanning surface & adjust camera & Projector Controls.

Camera Control

Exposure: 1/60s (Match Camera Frame Rate or multiples of camera frame rate eg 1/30s)

The exposure should be manually set for each camera using the back dial on each of the cameras rather than in HP Scan Software.

Adjust the exposure such that the background is mostly red and the object to be scanned is displayed in black and white.

Do not adjust the focus (front) dial. If the focus has been adjusted, you will need to re-calibrate the scanner.

Project Control

Brightness: varies greatly depending on ambient lighting, object colour & camera exposure. Brightness should be adjusted if the red sine curves are cropped or overdriven. Check each camera view.

Complete Scan

Once all settings have been adjusted, Click ▶ Scan to begin the scanning sequence.

Scans will be completed and can be viewed from the Shape Fusion tab.

If completing a Single Scan or Manual Scan Sequence, you will need to manually add scans to the shape fusion tab. Single Scan: Click Add to List in the Scan Result dialog Manual Turntable: Click ✔ Finish Scan Sequence in the Scanning dialog
